JobSense Project

West Wales & The Valleys Region

JOBSENSE WWV - Blue & Transparent
ELITE Supported Employment WG

JobSense has been funded by the European Social Fund to help people, aged 25 or over, with sight &/or hearing loss to find employment.

By using Specialist Employment Advisers, we’re able to support people with sight &/or hearing loss, through a range of interventions tailored to the needs and circumstances of the individual.

In partnership with Centre of Sign Sight Sound (COS), Merthyr Tydfil Institute for the Blind (MTIB), and Agoriad Cyf, ELITE’s role in JobSense is to work with jobseekers who have sight &/or hearing loss. We also work with employers to enable their ability to recruit from a diverse workforce while applying the appropriate tools for inclusion.

People with sight &/or hearing loss face significant barriers to work. A recent survey of employers by RNIB revealed that 75% of respondents would sooner employ an ex-convict than a person with vision loss.  A person who is deaf or has hearing loss is FOUR TIMES more likely to be out of work than a hearing person. People registered as blind or partially sighted are nearly FIVE TIMES more likely to be unemployed for five years or more than the general population.
