Volunteers Week 2023 – Ritchii Gilbert
ELITE Supported Employment recognises the immense potential and talent within disabled people and those facing disadvantages. With a mission to facilitate their integration into the workforce, ELITE has developed an array of programs designed to address unique needs, enhance skills, and boost self-confidence. We collaborate with local businesses, community organisations, and government agencies to create a supportive ecosystem that nurtures and maximises the potential of each participant.
As part of Volunteers Week, we emphasis on the role of volunteering in fostering personal and professional development. Through our volunteering initiatives, ELITE enables participants to gain hands-on experience, build networks, and explore different industries. Volunteers are matched with suitable opportunities based on their interests and aspirations, ensuring meaningful engagement that aligns with their personal goals.
"My name is Ritchii Gilbert, I’m a volunteer at ELITE supported employment.
I volunteer here specifically due to it being a charity that works with people who have varying disabilities. I myself have a disability and an illness and therefore find it encouraging to give something small back to this community. I get to witness first hand the great work that is being done for Wales which furthermore serves as a sense of pride.
The people I get to work alongside always make me feel like I have a sense of purpose. They have welcomed me, made me a part of the team and have provided me with new skills and a sense of belonging.
Before I started volunteering, my self-confidence was greatly diminished, and my self-worth and esteem had faded. Now… even though my disability has increased, my self-value has as well thanks to my volunteering.
I couldn’t be more grateful!"
